John 8:31-32
You shall know the truth and the truth will make you free. The key word here is know. The bible says in Hosea 4:6 that my people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge. Notice the bible doesn’t say that my people are destroyed because of witches or curses. Knowledge of God or Godly things is more powerful than a spiritual warfare to destroy evil forces.
Knowledge of the truth will set us free from sin, generational bondage, sicknesses and all forms of evil. Many people cannot correlate knowledge to freedom but that is exactly what Jesus told the Jews in John 8 and they responded by saying that they were the children of Abraham so they were not bound or slaves. The implication here is that without the knowledge of God, you are bound to sin or evil. Nicodemus, a teacher of the law, sneaked at night to ask the master how he could be born again. Nicodemus was bound by his limited knowledge. He was bound by a limitation in his knowledge. In John 11, Martha and Mary the sisters of Lazarus were bound in their limited knowledge of God by challenging his sovereignty when they told Jesus that if he had not delayed, the one he loved wouldn’t have died. They didn’t know that Jesus represented the first and last, life and death, resurrection and life.
I like the KJV that says that and the truth shall make you free, compared to the NIV which says that and the truth will set you free. One can be set free without walking and living in that freedom, that is why Jesus told the people to loose him and LET HIM GO. Also think about Jesus telling the sick to take up his bed and WALK.
Those who know the truth and are made free are those who continue in the word, John 8:31.
If I summarize verses 31 and 32, it will go like, those who continue in the word of God will know the truth and the truth will make them free.
Philippians 3:10 says that I may know Him. The essence of reading the word, going to church is to know Him.
When you read the word of God to renew your mind, you bring the will of God for your life to pass. Romans 12:2
Questions for you
1.How frequent do you read your bible. You need to continue in the word and be a doer to be his disciple.
2. How do you know him? Is your knowledge of God on the incline?
Going to church doesn’t qualify you to know him. Ask Nicodemus. Praying in tongues doesn’t either.
3. Look at activities and habits (e.g. social media) that prevents you from reading the bible and deprioritize them. Remove all idols for, God is a jealous God.
4. It is not enough to read the bible but meditate on it. Joshua 1, Psalm 1
5. What priority do you give to the word of God
